Greetings! I stumbled across this fic, and it was too strange and surprisingly angsty to pass up. After Sherlock Holmes’ death, John Watson keeps his brain in a jar: http://shkinkmeme.livejournal.com/4996.html?thread=9772932#t9772932

The mediwizards tell him that it was a close call. That he nearly died. That he narrowly avoided the Avada Kedavra. But that he’s fine or rather will be fine. That he’s alive. And John believes them. He doesn’t know any better.

“Hello and, again, welcome to the Aperture Science Research Facility,” blares a voice from nowhere. It’s British and male and young and manically cheerful. “We hope your brief detention in the relaxation vault has been a pleasant one. Your specimen has been processed and you are now ready to begin the test proper. Before we start, however, keep in mind that although fun—and learning—are the primary goals of our research, serious injuries may occur. For your own safety, and the safety of others, please refrain from—who—whr—brzt—”

He detected early the tragedy that the human brain, with all its capacity, gets clouded with a never ending flood of bodily needs and emotions. How perfect it could be if one was able to overcome those.

Warnings: Character death

Text

John groans at his side and Sherlock presses him closer to him in an attempt to hush him. John’s fingers dig into his shoulder - Sherlock knows it’s meant to be a lot tighter than it feels. It also is not as strong as it had been a moment ago. He feels his stomach start to shoot toward his toes but sheer will and fury keeps it firmly where it is. They need to get somewhere safe and they need to get there soon.

Warnings: Character injury (stomach).

Text

“So what is this then?” A sick feeling was settling in John’s stomach. “A much more elaborate game for Sherlock?”

Moriarty wiped his lips and a sickening smile spread over his face. It reminded John of the Grinch, how the longer the smile got, the more distorted the features became. “A game, yes. But this has nothing to do with Sherlock.”

“Then who? Mycroft?”

“No silly. You.”

Warnings: Kidnapping, Moriarty being a creeper

Children are supposed to be the most important things in the world, but Harriet Watson’s parents have always made it clear to her where their priorities lie. So when baby John comes along, it’s easy for her to prioritise her own wants and needs over his. After all, her parents have.

Warnings: Neglect, drinking (by both parents and minors), drug use

Text

The worst part though was the way John had both his hands clamped firmly over his mouth, and had them that way for a while if the white bloodlessness of the appendages were anything to go by.

Warnings: Psychological trauma, kidnapping (pre-fic),

Text

He doesn’t have a headache, but his head feels hollow, buzzing with an emptiness that indicates that he recently may have suffered from a very large one. Sherlock reaches out his hand, palm up, and waits.
